Susan Story co-chairs BPC’s Executive Council on Infrastructure.
She is president and CEO of American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company providing water, wastewater and other related services to an estimated 14 million people in more than 40 states and parts of Canada. A veteran utility executive with more than 30 years of experience, Story leads a team of 6600 employees who deliver safe, clean, affordable and reliable water services to its customers.
Before joining American Water, Story served as executive vice president of Southern Company, one of America’s largest generators of electricity serving regulated and competitive markets across the southeastern United States. In that role she was also president and CEO of Southern Company Services. She began her career at Southern Company as a nuclear power plant engineer and had increasing leadership responsibilities in power plant and T&D operations, customer service, human resources, corporate real estate and supply chain.
Story currently serves on BPC’s board of directors and the Moffitt Cancer Center board of advisors. She was recently the national chairman for the Center for Energy Workforce Development and served on the boards of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Alliance to Save Energy.
